Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1746-IM16 is a high-density discrete input module designed specifically for the SLC 500 chassis platform. This module primarily functions as a high-voltage interface, allowing an SLC 500 processor to monitor up to 16 independent 240V AC signals from field devices such as limit switches, motor starter auxiliary contacts, and pushbutton stations. By converting high-level AC field signals into logic-level data for the controller, the 1746-IM16 enables safe and reliable automation of high-power industrial machinery.
Control engineers utilize the 1746-IM16 to simplify the architecture of distributed control systems. Because the module supports a broad input voltage range of 170V to 265V AC, it is compatible with various global power standards. Furthermore, the inclusion of a Removable Terminal Block (RTB) allows for “pre-wiring” of the system and facilitates rapid module replacement without the need to disconnect individual field wires. Consequently, this design significantly reduces downtime during routine maintenance or system upgrades.
To ensure system-wide safety, the 1746-IM16 features optical isolation tested at 1500V AC.
