Allen-Bradley 1785-V80B PLC-5 VME Processor Card VMEbus CPU Module
The Allen-Bradley 1785-V80B is a high-speed VMEbus processor card for PLC-5 systems. Featuring 100k memory words and 0.5ms scan times, it bridges PLC logic with VME architectures. This USA-made module supports four DH+/RIO ports and remains a vital component for legacy VME-based industrial control and data integration.
Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1785-V80B functions as a high-performance bridge between standard PLC logic and specialized VME-based architectures. Because industrial environments often require multi-processor coordination, this card strictly complies with the C.1 VMEbus specification. This alignment allows the processor to interface directly with other VMEbus CPU modules and backplanes. Consequently, engineers can create a highly integrated control environment that leverages the strengths of both PLC and VME systems.
To ensure rapid execution of complex tasks, the card runs ladder logic programs derived from the enhanced PLC-5/40 platform. The module achieves a scan time of just 0.5 ms per 1,000 words for bit logic, which provides the speed necessary for high-demand processing. Furthermore, the 1785-V80B offers a substantial memory capacity of 100,000 words and manages up to 2,944 I/O points. To enhance system oversight, the processor utilizes a VME status file that monitors bus data and triggers VMEbus interrupts through extended Ladder MSG instructions.
Connectivity serves as a primary advantage of this module, as it includes four configurable ports supporting Data Highway Plus (DH+) and Remote I/O protocols. Additionally, a dedicated RS-232 serial interface facilitates local diagnostic and programming connections. Although Allen-Bradley officially discontinued this series in 2011, the 1785-V80B remains a critical component for maintaining and upgrading legacy VME-based installations. Therefore, it continues to provide a reliable solution for facilities requiring seamless data transfers and robust industrial control.
